The Taupo Squash junior squash programme recently came to a successful conclusion, marking the end of a season filled with growth, development, and fun for the young players involved.
With a varied age and abilities the junior programme is aimed at having fun in a positive safe environment and getting them away from those bloody screens! The young kids have been developing basic ball skills and getting into some hitting whilst earning gold stars from their achievement chart, with the older group frothing to play each other. It has been a resounding success thanks to the dedicated efforts of the coaches. Their guidance and support have not only helped the players improve their game but also instilled in them important values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and given them the social benefits that come from playing sport.
Success stories from the year include a number of the older group playing regular tournaments and attaining a grading. With George taking out his divison in a Head BOP Junior tournament. Also just seeing the kids around the club again (even hitting balls to each other).
As the programme wraps up, it is important to acknowledge and express gratitude to all the coaches who have played a pivotal role in its success. Their commitment and enthusiasm have made a significant impact on the development of the junior players, both on and off the court as well as hopefully boosting the stock of young players coming through our club. So big props to Head Coach Joe Wilson, Emily Wilson, Stu, Eliza, Brad Mitchel, Kasif - these guys have volunteered their time each Monday to help out the club.
